What to Ask the Agency When Arranging a Bobcat Hire

About Me
How to Increase the Size of Your Home

The moment my husband and I stepped into our house, we fell in love with the place. However, after we had lived in the property for a few months, we noticed that it didn't have enough living space. We sat down one day and worked out an improved layout for our home that would increase the amount of space available to us. We called in some contractors to complete the work and we are really pleased with how it turned out. I decided to start this blog to share our home construction journey with anyone who is considering enlarging their home.

What to Ask the Agency When Arranging a Bobcat Hire

If you're renting a bobcat for use on your residential property, you want to ensure you ask the agency all the right questions and find out everything involved in its proper use. A bobcat is a strong and durable piece of equipment that is usually small enough to fit on a residential property, but you still need to ensure you get the right type and the right size for the work at hand. Note a few questions and things to consider with the agency when you're going to rent a bobcat.

Ask them about the actual work that will be done

The scoop of a bobcat and the strength of its engine, as well as its size, may vary according to the actual work for which it's used. If you just want to dig up a pit for a new pool, you may only need a lightweight bobcat with a standard scoop.

However, if you're doing renovation work on your home and want to tear down a part of it, or demolish a shed and then also dig up some ground for the foundation of a new shed, you may need a backhoe. This has an added bucket on the back meant for heavy-duty work. Even a small shed may be too strong and durable for a standard bobcat to demolish, and this work may also throw it off balance.

For renovation work, you may assume you can use the bobcat to move materials around your property, but roofing tiles, large pipes, and these types of things may be too heavy for a smaller bobcat. For digging, if you need to cut through a layer of rock under the topsoil, you may then need a jackhammer attachment on the bobcat to break it up. Whatever the use, be sure you discuss it with the agency so you get the right type of bobcat for your needs.

Ask about clearance and how it turns

Even a small bobcat may need more clearance than you expect, and especially if you need to actually back it up and turn it in a new direction, as you would a car. Some bobcats, however, have a rotating cab; you can simply turn the cab and bucket around and face a new direction, without actually turning around the entire bobcat. This might be needed for very small spaces so you can work easily without the risk of literally running into your house or an outbuilding on your property.
