Interior Makeover Tips to Make Your Home Look Brighter

About Me
How to Increase the Size of Your Home

The moment my husband and I stepped into our house, we fell in love with the place. However, after we had lived in the property for a few months, we noticed that it didn't have enough living space. We sat down one day and worked out an improved layout for our home that would increase the amount of space available to us. We called in some contractors to complete the work and we are really pleased with how it turned out. I decided to start this blog to share our home construction journey with anyone who is considering enlarging their home.

As an apartment renter, the option of tearing down walls and installing larger windows is not available to you if the natural light coming into your living space is not as bright as you would like. Aside from that, installing larger windows is a costly undertaking that may require you to break the bank to do it properly. Dim space and you are working on a low budget? No problem. There are plenty of simple and affordable ways to make your living space much brighter.

Paint

One of the easiest ways to make a dark room seem brighter is to give it a fresh coat of light-coloured paint. Lighter tones of paint colours have reflective qualities that can make dim space appear more open and brighter. Paint your walls and ceiling with light coloured paint, but make sure the paint used on your ceiling is lighter. This adds the feeling of greater height in a room. Since it is not practical to paint the floors in a rented apartment, it is a good idea to place a bright-coloured rug on the floors of a dark room.

Mirrors

Another clever way to open up your space to more natural light is to strategically place mirrors on the walls so that they can scatter the light that enters your space through the windows to the rest of the room. Mirrors basically work on the same principle as painted walls and ceilings, only that they can be positioned to redirect the light exactly where it is needed. You can choose from different mirror varieties including vintage mirrors, convex/concave mirrors or mercury mirrors.

Artwork

Go out there and get yourself some decorative pieces of art that have been made with lighter varieties of material or fabric. Artwork done in light colours can be the centre of focus in a room, but they can also really brighten up your space.

Furniture

Furniture items usually occupy a significant amount of space in your home, especially in the living room. Using furniture made of bright-coloured fabric or those with highly reflective surface finishes can significantly make a dim space appear brighter.

Dimness can make a room to lose functionality as well as its charm. Aside from the above-highlighted options, there's a nearly unlimited number of other things you can do to brighten up your living space, so research home renovations widely, and feel free to do what you think will work best for you.
