Benefits of Brick Pavers in Your Garden

About Me
How to Increase the Size of Your Home

The moment my husband and I stepped into our house, we fell in love with the place. However, after we had lived in the property for a few months, we noticed that it didn't have enough living space. We sat down one day and worked out an improved layout for our home that would increase the amount of space available to us. We called in some contractors to complete the work and we are really pleased with how it turned out. I decided to start this blog to share our home construction journey with anyone who is considering enlarging their home.

Benefits of Brick Pavers in Your Garden

Brick pavers are made from clay moulded into the shapes before being fired in a kiln. You can use these pavers on driveways, patios and pathways. Here are some benefits of this outdoor flooring.

Colour Depth

Brick pavers come in various shades, such as red, orange, pink, brown and green. The colours of the pavers are created by the clay itself, so the colour runs throughout the paver. Thus, the hue isn't a surface coat that can flake off or fade in the sun. Even if the brick chips, it won't look like an eyesore or be that noticeable, as the paving colour will remain consistent.

Attractive Design Options

Brick paver surfaces create hardscape features with classic appeal. The pavers come in squares, rectangles and fan shapes that are pieced together to form patterns. For example, you might lay a basket weave design with pairs of pavers set at right angles. Otherwise, lay a zigzag herringbone array. If brick paving becomes worn or grows tufts of grass between the pavers, it nevertheless retains its beauty and rustic charm. Other materials, like concrete, tend to simply look old and worn over time, and the wear doesn't add to their mystique.

Repurposeable

Beneficially, you can repurpose brick pavers and use them for other projects in the future should you pull up the paving. Reusing objects helps the environment by reducing the energy consumption that the production of new materials would cause. Old paving bricks, for instance, could be used for a retaining wall. Alternatively, use them for garden edging to keep the soil in place and add a decorative border. You could send them to a recycling outlet where others could use the bricks, so they wouldn't go to waste if you remove the paving in the future. Older bricks can be more desirable than brand-new bricks as they give character to a hardscape feature.

Moveable

Interlocking paver surfaces are created by fitting the pavers together on a base of crushed sand and stone. Because you piece them together and they're not set in rigid mortar, you can pull out individual pavers if they become damaged. This moveability also helps you to access wiring or pipes within the earth.

Even though removing the sub-base of gravel and sand requires some work, you can replace them and use the same pavers afterwards. You could even remodel your yard in the future and use the pavers in a different spot. You might move them from a patio to a pathway, for example.
